Why It Matters

You're not in a hotel dressed up to look palatial — you're in an actual palace where Napoleon III lived, still decorated with the same furnishings and artworks. The Ruspoli family has owned it since the 18th century and the current princess still lives here.
This is not a hotel in any conventional sense. It's two private apartments inside the 16th-century Palazzo Ruspoli — a working aristocratic palace still owned by Prince Pietro and Princess Letizia Ruspoli. The place is named after Emperor Napoleon III, who actually lived here in 1830. Every painting, tapestry, and piece of furniture is the real thing.

Six huge oil paintings dominate the bedroom: one hangs at the head of the canopied bed, another opens from the wall to reveal the entrance to a marble bathroom. Parquet floors, 16th-century tapestries, hand-stencilled walls. This is late baroque opulence at maximum volume.

From EUR2,130 / nightThe Napoleone Suite with the addition of the Blue Room — a cosy double bedroom accessed via 16 stairs from the Yellow Room. Named for the Chinese antique vases it features. Good option for families or a group of three. The Blue Room has its own en-suite bathroom with both a shower and bath, plus a small balcony.

More contemporary feel than the Napoleone Suite — not as historically loaded, but the 360-degree rooftop views are arguably the bigger draw. The entrance is via a spiral staircase, which is steep. The bedroom has a king-size bed (twins available on request). An adjoining en-suite double room on the lower level can be added for groups of four.
