Regina Barcelona
Historic modernist boutique with calm, contemporary interiors. Understated rather than flashy — good books in the lobby, locally sourced minibar treats, Meraki bath products. The kind of place that slows you down in a city that often doesn't.

Why It Matters
One of Barcelona's oldest continuously operating hotels, founded 1917 and Michelin Guide-listed. The Century Suite occupies what was once the building's ballroom, with century-old columns and original parquet intact. B Corp certified, family-owned by the Roig brothers (sons of the hotel's founder). The 2024 renovation respected the historic fabric while modernizing everything guests actually touch.
Hotel Regina has been on Carrer Bergara since 1917, and the bones of the place show it. The arched modernist entrance with its stained-glass canopy is still intact, the Century Suite still has the ornate iron columns and parquet floors from the original building's ballroom, and the Art Deco staircase with hairpin wrought-iron railings hasn't gone anywhere. But the hotel was fully overhauled in early 2024 — rooms refreshed, the ground-floor salon reimagined as Gina's Lobby Bar, and the interior patio turned into a light-filled breakfast courtyard. It now sits squarely at the intersection of preservation and modernization, pulling it off without feeling like a museum. The location is genuinely hard to beat: steps from Plaça de Catalunya, with the Gothic Quarter, El Raval, and Eixample all on the doorstep.
