Rajmahal Palace RAAS Jaipur
Eclectic royal Art Deco — mirrored ceilings, antique chandeliers, custom-commissioned wallpapers telling the stories of Jaipur in every room, and polo trophies lining the bar. Bold color, old money, and surprisingly personal.
The Colonnade restaurant is open to non-resident guests with a prior reservation — worth it for afternoon tea on the lawn
Why It Matters
One of the few Indian palace hotels still actively inhabited by the royal family it was built for. Only Rajmahal guests get exclusive access to the private Chandra Mahal section of the City Palace — a seven-story royal residence unavailable to any other hotel's guests. With just 13 keys, the staff-to-guest ratio is extraordinary. Voted No. 1 hotel in India by Travel+Leisure in 2024.
Built in 1729 for the Maharaja of Jaipur and later reimagined in Art Deco grandeur, this 13-room palace sits behind high stone walls in seven acres of manicured gardens right in the middle of the city. The Jaipur Royal Family still calls it home — that 1950s Ford Thunderbird parked out front is theirs. Past guests have included Queen Elizabeth II, Jackie Kennedy, and Lord Mountbatten, and yes, there are suites named after each of them.
