Hotel, Roma Antica
Contemporary urban luxury in a historic shell. Moody, sophisticated interiors — earth tones and Fornasetti patterned wallpaper against Carrara marble and dark hardwood. The lobby hums with energy; the rooftop is the social focal point. Feels polished and modern rather than grandly classical.

Why It Matters
Two things make this hotel genuinely singular: the 8th-floor Modius on the Roof rooftop terrace bar with near 360-degree views of Rome's skyline, and the on-site archaeological exhibit in the basement — a preserved fragment of the Porticus Minucia, an Imperial Roman wall uncovered during construction in 2020, accompanied by a 3D multimedia reconstruction. Location-wise it's hard to beat, sitting at the precise crossroads of Rome's greatest hits.
Opened in April 2024 inside the carefully restored Palazzo Lares Permarini, the Radisson Collection Roma Antica sits on a busy stretch of Via delle Botteghe Oscure, roughly equidistant between Piazza Venezia and the Largo Argentina cat sanctuary ruins. The building hides 84 rooms across 8 floors — all done in dark wooden floors, Fornasetti wallpaper, and gleaming Carrara marble bathrooms — plus a rooftop cocktail bar with some of the best over-the-rooftops views in Rome. In the basement, a genuine fragment of the Imperial-era Porticus Minucia wall sits behind glass with a 3D multimedia reconstruction. The location is genuinely excellent for walkers: the Pantheon is about 6 minutes on foot, the Roman Forum a similar distance in the other direction.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Throughout the day, the hotel keeps the lobby stocked with complimentary coffee, tea, water, and biscuits — a simple touch that guests regularly single out in reviews.
The hotel's most distinctive on-site experience. In the basement, a preserved fragment of the ancient perimeter wall of the Porticus Minucia — an Imperial Roman structure — sits behind glass, uncovered during construction in 2020. A multimedia video presents a 3D reconstruction of the full monument in its original context. Overseen by the Rome Superintendence of Archaeology during excavation. Free for hotel guests to visit; ask reception for access.
The hotel's signature social ritual. Head to the 8th-floor wrap-around terrace from 3:00pm for Aperol Spritzes, Italian wine, small plates and cocktails against a backdrop of Rome's skyline — the Pantheon to the left, the Altare della Patria to the right. Still relatively crowd-free compared to Rome's more famous rooftops.
