Why It Matters
Poland's homegrown lifestyle hotel brand PURO, launched in Wrocław in 2011, brought proper boutique design to Polish cities before anyone else did. The Poznań property was recently refreshed by Holloway Li (London) and carries original artwork by local artists Małgorzata Szymankiewicz, Krzysztof Mętel, Piotr Łakomy, and Paweł Matyszewski. It's also one of the few Michelin Guide-listed hotels in the city.
PURO Poznań Stare Miasto sits right on the edge of Poznań's reconstructed medieval Old Town, a short walk from the famous market square and in what was historically the city's Jewish quarter. The building is modern — built in 2014 — but the interior punches well above its category: original works by local artists, designer furniture from names like Muuto and Arflex, and rooms redesigned by London-based studio Holloway Li. This is Poland's own boutique hotel brand doing things properly, and the Poznań outpost consistently ranks as the best-placed design hotel in the city.
