Posada del Angel
Romantic, intimate, old-world colonial. This is the kind of place that feels lived-in — art and relics in every corner, signature scents developed by a local alchemist, custom dinnerware inspired by Capuchinas monastery engravings. It pulls off elegance without feeling precious.
The Rose Suite is widely considered the best room — it's the only one with its own private roof terrace and has three-volcano views; book well ahead.
Why It Matters
One of Guatemala's most recognized boutique properties. Winner of the 2007 Andrew Harper Hideaway Report, now awarded one Michelin Key. Has hosted Presidents (including Bill Clinton, whose suite is named after him) and celebrities. The first boutique hotel in Antigua, opened in 1993.
Posada del Angel is the original boutique hotel of La Antigua — seven rooms inside a restored Spanish colonial casona on a quiet cobblestone street, about four blocks from the main plaza. Everything happens behind a small wooden door: a courtyard lap pool, a romantic garden, a rooftop terrace looking straight at Volcán de Agua. The rooms are not large or flashy, but the atmosphere is dense with character: Mayan textiles woven on backstrap looms, carved wood sculptures, hand-hammered copper, and candles that transform the corridors at night. Established in 1993, it was the first luxury boutique hotel in Antigua and it still earns a Michelin Key.
