PituRooms
Quirky, architecture-forward micro-boutique. Owner-designed, art-forward, deeply community-rooted. The humor is intentional — the narrow building leans into its constraints rather than apologizing for them.
Room 'Tu' (Room 7, top floor) has the most direct view of Mount Merbabu's peak — worth requesting specifically.
Why It Matters
Widely recognized as the world's skinniest hotel at just 2.8 meters wide. Featured by CNN, Dezeen, Domus, Archdaily, and the Michelin Guide. It is a passion project by architect Ary Indra, who returned to his hometown of Salatiga specifically to put it on the map for design-minded travelers. Each of the seven rooms has a different theme, name, and color story, with original local artwork throughout.
PituRooms is a seven-room micro-hotel on Jalan Sukowati in central Salatiga, built on a plot just 2.8 meters (9 feet) wide and 12 meters long — almost certainly the world's skinniest hotel. Designed by local architect Ary Indra (Sahabat Selojene) and opened in December 2022, it reclaimed an unwanted sliver of land that developers had long ignored. The building rises 17 meters tall across six stacked levels, with a capsule elevator, floating steel staircases, and seven rooms each dressed in a distinct color palette and local artwork. The top-floor PituLongue lounge opens to panoramic views of four mountain peaks and a lake.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The building itself is the experience. The 75cm-diameter acrylic tube vacuum lift, floating steel grating staircases, see-through floor panels, and gill-like red agra stone facade are all worth exploring slowly. Each floor reveals a different room theme and perspective on the building's micro-space concept.
PituRooms regularly hosts community art events, creative workshops, and exhibitions in its public spaces. The hotel is designed to function as a cultural platform, not just accommodation. Events are posted via Instagram (@piturooms).
The hotel's curated tour program connecting guests with Salatiga's local communities and surroundings. Past runs include a collaboration with Salatiga Running Buddies (urban trail run from the hotel) and multi-day open trips to Pasar Papringan in Temanggung — a well-known bamboo market that opens only on certain days. Tours are announced via Instagram.
A recurring partnership run with local running club Salatiga Running Buddies. Guests join community trail runs through Salatiga's streets and nearby routes, then return to PituRooms. Announced seasonally via Instagram.
