Pikaia Lodge sits on the rim of an extinct volcanic crater on Santa Cruz Island, 450 meters (roughly 1,476 ft) above sea level, inside its own 31-hectare private giant tortoise reserve. One of two suites, this ground-floor suite adds a private enclosed garden to its 16 sqm terrace, giving guests their own outdoor sanctuary. Ideal for couples wanting a private garden retreat after excursions.

Day trips to Santa Cruz's two main white-sand beaches: Tortuga Bay (1km of fine sand, turquoise water, marine iguanas, small-shark nursery — ranked among the world's top 20 beaches) and El Garrapatero (smaller, secluded, near the lodge, surrounded by mangroves). Sea kayaking and snorkeling available at both. No guide required for either beach.
The lodge's 31-hectare private reserve surrounds the property. Galapagos giant tortoises roam freely through the grounds — you'll likely encounter them on any walk around the estate without a guide or schedule required.
Over 3.5km of private internal roads and trails wind through reforested endemic forests on the lodge's estate. Expect birdsong, highland views, and regular close encounters with wild giant tortoises along the way.
Quality mountain bikes and helmets available free of charge for unlimited guest use. Trail maps provided at the front desk. Routes run inside and outside the lodge through different microclimates. Garrapatero Beach is a popular 10km downhill ride ending in a 10-minute walk to a white-sand beach. Other destinations: volcanic craters, lava tunnels, small villages with organic coffee farms and cattle ranches.
Evening welcome lecture by the hotel manager on arrival. Ongoing screening of David Attenborough's 3D Galapagos documentary series on a large 3D HD-TV with 3D goggles. Library dedicated to science, evolution, and the Galapagos. Temporary art and photography exhibitions showcasing local artists and scientific knowledge.
A special photography expedition experience (July 18–22, 2026) guided by nature photographer Robinski. Includes guided theory sessions, hands-on practice in the field, and direct feedback. Full-day guided navigations aboard the lodge's 145-ft private yacht to nearby uninhabited islands. Guests visit two islands per day with a dedicated naturalist guide. Destinations include North Seymour, Bartolome, Santa Fe, Plazas, Chinese Hat, Sullivan Bay, Mosquera, Bachas, and Cerro Dragon & Eden. Each guest has a private cabin aboard for freshening up. Snorkeling gear and wetsuits are included.
Optional add-on day trips with National Park-authorized local dive operators. Top sites include North Seymour, Plazas, Cousins Rocks, and Daphne Islet. Intermediate-to-advanced skill level required due to strong currents. International open water certification mandatory. Concierge can assist with booking.
Deep-sea trolling for Blue Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, and Mahi Mahi, or bottom fishing for Galapagos Grouper and Snapper — all on a strict catch-and-release basis in line with Galapagos conservation rules. Arranged via the lodge concierge with specialized local operators.

Crater-edge infinity pool clad in Peruvian travertine marble with comfortable tanning chairs. Strategically positioned to be shade-free all day, keeping the water at a pleasant temperature. A covered gazebo with two sofas sits at the far eastern edge of the crater for quiet reading. Pool hours: 7:00–21:00 daily.
Solar panels and a wind turbine generate the majority of the lodge's energy. The building also features UV-reflecting glass, optimal solar water-heating panel placement, and rainwater collection roofs that feed an on-site treatment and purification system, eliminating plastic water bottles.
Pikaia provides access to the VIP lounge at Seymour Airport on both arrival and departure, included in all packages. A lodge representative assists with park fee processing on arrival.
