Oban Hotel
Contemporary boutique with Victorian structure. Blues and earthy tones reference the coast and surrounding scenery without going tartan. Bold colours, plush furnishings, flower walls. Upbeat and polished, not stuffed-shirt.
If you book a sea view room, request a floor above Floor 1 — trees can partially block the view from lower levels.
Why It Matters
The most design-forward hotel in Oban and still one of the only properties in the area with a proper spa. The restaurant — now The Oban Brasserie, previously BAAB Meze & Grill (Michelin Plate holder) — brings serious kitchen credentials to a town more associated with fish-and-chip queues. Position right on the harbour, steps from the ferry terminal, makes it the natural base for island-hopping.
A Victorian railway hotel from 1882 that got a multi-million-pound overhaul and came out the other side as a genuinely contemporary boutique property — which is saying something for Oban. Sixty rooms, a harbour-facing spa called Mara, a French-inflected brasserie working with the West Coast's extraordinary seafood, and a cocktail lounge that goes from espresso bar to glam evening spot. The building still has the bones of The Station Hotel that originally welcomed passengers off the west coast rail line.
