Peak Edge Hotel
Countryside-sophisticated — log fires, exposed stonework and local ales on one side; smart Hypnos mattresses, Bluetooth bathroom mirrors and 2 AA Rosette food on the other. It's genuinely good value for what you get.

Why It Matters
Two AA Rosettes for the Red Lion Restaurant, a rigorous farm-to-table philosophy sourcing directly from Walton Lodge Farm Estate, and a rare helicopter landing facility. Ranked among TripAdvisor's top 10 best small hotels in the UK. Highland cattle graze the hotel grounds in spring and summer.
A family-owned 4-star boutique hotel perched at the edge of Derbyshire's Peak District National Park, six miles from Chesterfield and 15 minutes from Chatsworth House. The Red Lion pub building at its heart dates to the 16th century — original beams and stone still very much in evidence — with a modern hotel extension that adds 27 rooms, all facing the countryside. The whole operation runs on produce from the owner's 360-acre Walton Lodge Farm Estate less than a mile down the road: eggs, bread, beef, the lot.
