The hotel occupies the exact room where James Joyce completed Ulysses in 1921, and its James Joyce Suite — a 70m² attic with exposed beams and rooftop views — is dedicated to him. The cellar spa is built around a former mythical cabaret (the Quod Libet), with steps classified as a historical monument. Chef Thibault Sombardier's bistronomic restaurant draws serious Paris diners, not just hotel guests.
Three 17th-century buildings on a quiet Left Bank street, stitched together and reborn in April 2022 as one coherent five-star boutique hotel. The result spans numbers 1, 3, and 5 rue du Pré-aux-Clercs — restaurant at one end, literary bar in the middle, hotel and spa at the other. James Joyce finished Ulysses in a room here. Léo Ferré launched his career in the vaulted cellars below. Interior designer Didier Benderli (Kerylos Intérieurs) wove high-fashion decor through all three buildings while keeping each structurally distinct.

Small by Paris boutique standards — 18-20m² — so don't expect a lot of storage (guests consistently note the lack of nightstand drawers). Two of these rooms are duplexes, which opens up the space considerably.

The sensation shifts here — feels less like a hotel room and more like a French private residence. Spacious and bright at 24-27m², with noble materials, precious draperies and refined furnishings. The James Joyce Suite is the headline act — 70m² under the roof with exposed wooden beams, an attic spirit, and unobstructed views across Parisian rooftops. This is the actual room where James Joyce completed Ulysses in October 1921. A completely separate pied-à-terre experience. Located directly opposite the hotel in a neoclassical building on rue du Pré-aux-Clercs, with its own private entrance. The bedroom windows look directly across at the hotel facade. Guests access all hotel services — restaurant, bar, spa — but have the intimacy of a private apartment.
