Book a south-facing room — the valley view is markedly better and worth the extra spend

Why It Matters

One of the very few hotels in the Alps built in classical modernist style. It's a Relais & Châteaux member with a 14-point GaultMillau restaurant, a 1,700 m² spa with a panoramic outdoor saltwater pool, and an elegant design sensibility that doesn't shout about itself. The mountain views from south-facing rooms are exceptional.

A 4-star Relais & Châteaux property that opened in 1901 — though the striking streamlined white building itself dates to the 1930s, renovated in five stages between 2006 and 2015 by Basel architects Buchner Bründler. Positioned just above the center of Adelboden, surrounded by a garden of old maples, with panoramic mountain views in every direction. The interior is defined by mid-century design classics: furniture by Gerrit Rietveld, Norman Cherner and Konstantin Grcic, warm elm and walnut wood, and rooms that feel deliberately calm and generous. The restaurant Belle Vue holds 14 GaultMillau points and the 1,700 m² spa named 'pour' includes a heated outdoor saltwater pool at 34°C with mountain views.
