Why It Matters

One of Ireland's most storied luxury hotels, operating since 1897. Awarded 2 Michelin Keys in 2025. Member of Relais & Chateaux and Ireland's Blue Book. Voted Best Hotel in Ireland by both Condé Nast Traveller and Travel & Leisure readers. Now houses a museum-quality contemporary art collection — Sean Scully, Andy Warhol, Guggi, Dorothy Cross — and is the only property in Europe to serve Blue Bottle Coffee, with a custom roast called The Kenmare Blend.

Park Hotel Kenmare has been welcoming guests since 1897, built originally as a railway hotel on the Kerry coast. The place has held on to what makes it special — year-round wood-burning fires, antique-filled rooms, stained-glass windows casting colour over Kenmare Bay — while the current owners Bryan and Tara Meehan have pushed it firmly into a new era. A museum-quality art collection featuring Sean Scully, Andy Warhol, Theaster Gates, Dorothy Cross, and more lines the walls; Landline, the on-site restaurant, serves genuinely excellent locally sourced food; and the hotel now holds 2 Michelin Keys. Look, it's not cheap and it's not minimalist. But as a 5-star Irish country house with serious character and a strong sense of place, it's hard to beat.
