Why It Matters
One of the Netherlands' most serious food-first hotel experiences. Restaurant Voltaire has held a Michelin star since 2018 and scored 16 Gault Millau points in 2026. The estate itself is a 15th-century monument with one of the top three English landscape gardens in the country. Both restaurants source from an on-site historic kitchen garden. A 15th-century estate deep in the forested hills of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, about 20km from Utrecht. The 22-room boutique hotel pairs genuine heritage — Louis XVI ceilings, original murals, ancient wooden floors — with clean, contemporary design by interior designer Judith van Mourik. The big draw is Restaurant Voltaire, Michelin-starred since 2018, running ambitious multi-course tasting menus built on produce from the estate's own kitchen garden. Bistro LOF sits in the old farmhouse and keeps things more relaxed and accessible, open daily to guests and non-guests alike.

The largest suite in the hotel, on the second floor of the manor house rear wing. Canopy kingsize bed, freestanding bath inside the suite itself, plus a separate rain shower bathroom. Views look out over the park and the estate pond. Perfect bridal suite candidate — you can soak in the freestanding tub with a glass of bubbles and watch the grounds below.

Koetshuis Panorama Suite
The premium suite option within the Coach House building. Same building character as the Koetshuiskamer but with enhanced space, views, and suite-level amenities.

In the separate Coach House building diagonally across from the main manor, these rooms have their own character: original wooden floors, exposed wooden beams, green colour accents, and a botanical-inspired corridor with a glass ceiling that mimics a greenhouse. Good if you're travelling in a group and want everyone on the same floor. No lift — stairs only. Views are green but modest through a small window. These are the most affordable rooms on property, but several guest reviews note they feel less special than the manor rooms for the price.

On the top floor (third floor) of the main manor house, the Large Loft has exposed wooden beams, skylight windows built into the sloping roof, and a genuine loft feel. Lots of natural light flooding in from the ceiling windows. No sweeping estate view — the roof windows give daylight but not a vista. A solid value option in the main building.

An early morning birdwatching session led by estate bird watcher Adriaan. A genuinely early start, but the estate's Natura 2000 setting makes for an exceptional birding environment.
