Parc Broekhuizen | Culinair Landgoed
Heritage-meets-contemporary. Formal enough to feel special, relaxed enough that you can walk from a seven-course dinner straight to your room. The grounds do a lot of the work: a Zocher-designed English landscape garden, a historic walled kitchen garden, and a small lake that catches the light.
Book a room in the main manor house with park or lake views — Koetshuis rooms are cheaper but guest reviews consistently note they feel less special
Why It Matters
One of the Netherlands' most serious food-first hotel experiences. Restaurant Voltaire has held a Michelin star since 2018 and scored 16 Gault Millau points in 2026. The estate itself is a 15th-century monument with one of the top three English landscape gardens in the country. Both restaurants source from an on-site historic kitchen garden. Member of Tablet Hotels (Michelin Guide hotel selection) and Romantik Hotels.
A 15th-century estate deep in the forested hills of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, about 20km from Utrecht. The 22-room boutique hotel pairs genuine heritage — Louis XVI ceilings, original murals, ancient wooden floors — with clean, contemporary design by interior designer Judith van Mourik. The big draw is Restaurant Voltaire, Michelin-starred since 2018, running ambitious multi-course tasting menus built on produce from the estate's own kitchen garden. Bistro LOF sits in the old farmhouse and keeps things more relaxed and accessible, open daily to guests and non-guests alike.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A rolling art programme (art@TheParc) featuring different artists every 6–8 weeks displayed throughout the estate. Some large-scale sculpture has been installed across the grounds. Accessible during normal estate hours.
Bicycles available to rent on site for exploring the estate and the wider Utrechtse Heuvelrug cycling routes.
An early morning birdwatching session led by estate bird watcher Adriaan. A genuinely early start, but the estate's Natura 2000 setting makes for an exceptional birding environment.
Woodland paths across the estate and into the surrounding Natura 2000 area. The historic Zocher-designed English landscape garden with axis views and a small lake is freely accessible from the grounds.
The estate's historic kitchen garden is publicly accessible without booking. Both restaurant kitchens source from it daily. Worth a stroll at any time of year.
A guided tour of the historic estate kitchen garden with the estate gardener, including tastings of what is growing, and a specially prepared dish made exclusively from kitchen garden ingredients. Can be extended with a broader estate tour.
Guided mountainbiking on the trails of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, run in partnership with Nudge Cycling. Bikes and professional instruction provided.
A boules (pétanque) station in the estate garden, freely accessible to hotel guests.
A tailored retreat package designed around rest and recovery in the estate's natural setting.
A team-building activity in which participants guide a small flock of sheep through a course on the estate grounds. Requires cooperation and communication — the sheep provide unexpected challenges. Run in partnership with Schaapskudde Doorn.
