Why It Matters

One of the most atmospheric castle hotels in Spain. The building occupies the best-preserved castle in the province of Cuenca, with over 1,300 years of history. With only 14 rooms, it operates more like a boutique property. Guests can ask reception for the key to walk the ramparts. The Júcar River wraps around three sides of the rocky hill below.

A genuine 8th-century Moorish fortress perched on a rocky promontory above the Júcar River, with just 14 rooms. This is one of the smallest Paradores in Spain, which is exactly the point — the whole place feels like your own private castle. Stone walls, vaulted ceilings, rich red and orange textiles, original wood beams, and a curated collection of contemporary Spanish paintings create a setting that is equal parts medieval fortress and upscale hotel.

Junior Suite

The largest accommodation in the property. One junior suite in the entire castle, so availability is limited. More space than the tower rooms and a good option for those who want the castle atmosphere without the compact proportions of the tower. Same medieval-style decor with quality fabrics and furnishings.

Standard Double Room

Stone-walled rooms in the castle wing with warm Castilian decor — reds, oranges, rich fabrics, and Castilian oak furniture. A few retain the original arrow-slit windows set into thick walls. Comfortable but not large by modern standards. All have private bathrooms, air conditioning, TV, minibar, and safe.

Superior Double Room

The tower rooms are the ones guests rave about. Located in the 6-story Torre del Homenaje (Tower of Homage), with one room per floor. Roughly 28 sqm, with romantic four-poster beds, curved stone ceilings, and in some rooms private access to their own section of battlements. The views over the Júcar River gorge are exceptional. Worth the upgrade.
