Palazzo Seneca
Understated Umbrian luxury. Dark wood, leather, grand four-poster beds, antique armoires, crackling fireplace in the drawing room. Historic bones with contemporary craft. The mood is intimate and unhurried — more private residence than big hotel.
Book your Vespasia dinner well in advance and submit your menu choice by 8pm the evening before — it's a sustainability requirement, not a formality.
Why It Matters
Palazzo Seneca holds the only Michelin star in Norcia (Ristorante Vespasia, continuously since 2016, also holding a Michelin Green Star for sustainability). It's part of Relais & Châteaux, is one of the oldest hotels in Umbria, and survived the devastating 2016 Norcia earthquake without damage. The Bianconi family has been in hospitality here for over 170 years.
A 16th-century palazzo in the heart of Norcia — one of Umbria's most authentic towns and the birthplace of St. Benedict. The Bianconi family has been running hotels here since 1850, and Palazzo Seneca is their crown jewel: 24 rooms inside a finely restored Renaissance building, with a Michelin-starred restaurant downstairs and a small spa carved into the ancient vaulted basement. It punches well above its size. The whole place is deeply, specifically Umbrian — over 95% of the furnishings and decorations sourced from local artisans — and the family's generational investment in the land shows in everything from the breakfast spread to the truffle-forward menu at Vespasia.
