Palazzo Daniele
Contemporary minimalism meets 19th-century aristocratic grandeur. Art-forward, intimate, and deliberately unhurried. Think whitewashed walls, bare wood, and original frescoes — not chintz and turndown sweets.

Why It Matters
One of southern Italy's most design-forward small hotels, and a rare case where the art collection is genuinely serious, not decorative. AHEAD Award winner. Listed in Michelin Guide, Tablet Hotels, and Mr & Mrs Smith. Part of the Design Hotels collection and bookable via Marriott Bonvoy. The 19th-century chapel, black-bottomed pool, and a kitchen run by four local Salentine women all make this place stand apart from the typical Puglia masseria.
Palazzo Daniele is a seriously small, seriously stylish boutique hotel inside a 163-year-old aristocratic palazzo at the very tip of Italy's heel. Roman hotelier Gabriele Salini and Puglian art collector Francesco Petrucci — the last descendant of the family that built the place in 1861 — transformed it into an artist guesthouse that feels more like a private residence than a hotel. And that's entirely the point. The credo is 'questa casa non è un albergo' ('this house is not a hotel'). Milanese design studio Palomba Serafini Associati stripped the interiors back to near-monastic minimalism, letting 19th-century ceiling frescoes and mosaic floors do the heavy lifting while site-specific contemporary artworks — including pieces by Nicolas Party, Roberto Cuoghi, and Carla Accardi — fill the gaps.
