Palacete Severo
Refined, art-forward, deeply residential. More like staying in a brilliantly restored private house than a hotel. Adults-only policy keeps it genuinely quiet. Contemporary art hangs in every room, rotating with the gallery's exhibitions.
Book Éon restaurant well in advance — it's 1-Michelin-star fine dining, only open Wednesday to Saturday evenings, and very hard to get into last-minute.
Why It Matters
One of Porto's most architecturally significant historic houses, now converted with a live contemporary art gallery, a 1-Michelin-star restaurant (Éon), and the only spa in Portugal using Olivier Claire skincare. The house itself was called a 'museum of details' by art critics when it was first built in 1902.
A late 19th-century manor house turned 19-room adults-only hotel in Porto's Cedofeita district. Ricardo Severo built it in 1902 as a home for his Brazilian wife Francisca — and the place still feels intensely personal. Hand-painted ceilings, stained glass by Catalan artist Antoni Rigalt, black-and-white mosaic floors, carved wood sourced from across Portugal. Now owned by French gallerist Géraldine Banier, who installed a satellite of her Paris-based Perspective Galerie throughout the property. The restaurant Éon holds 1 Michelin star.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A daily complimentary reception for guests — good for introductions to the hotel's wine and port selection.
The hotel concierge can arrange or recommend cruises along the Douro River, one of Porto's classic experiences. Not on-site but consistently recommended by staff.
A satellite of the Paris-based Perspective Galerie, founded in 2002 by new hotel owner Géraldine Banier. Portuguese and international artists — painters and sculptors — are exhibited throughout the hotel rooms and public spaces. Each room is an active part of the current exhibition. The current show is 'Uma Página Aberta | Group Show' (23 March–30 August 2026).
A full virtual tour of the hotel available online, useful for pre-stay exploration of the property's architecture and spaces.
