Palé Hall Hotel
High Victorian grandeur with a warm, informal atmosphere. Grand proportions and period detail throughout the main house, contrasted by more contemporary garden suites in the converted coach house. The place takes history seriously but never feels stuffy.
The Victoria Room on the first floor is a Grand Room — it has Queen Victoria's original bathtub. Book it specifically if that's your thing.
Why It Matters
One of Wales' most decorated country house hotels, with a genuinely storied past — the Victoria Room still contains Queen Victoria's original bathtub. The 2026 arrival of chef partner Luke Selby (formerly Evelyn's Table, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Le Manoir) marks a significant new chapter. The hotel holds a Michelin Green Star for sustainability, three AA Rosettes, a Michelin Key, AA Five Red Stars, and Relais & Châteaux membership simultaneously.
Palé Hall is a Victorian country house hotel built in 1871, sitting on 15 acres of riverside parkland in the Dee Valley at the edge of Snowdonia National Park. The house — complete with galleried entrance hall, vaulted ceilings, hand-painted dome in the Boudoir, and a marbled bar — was originally built for Scottish railway magnate Henry Robertson and has since hosted Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill. Today it holds AA Five Red Stars, a Relais & Châteaux membership, a Michelin Key, and a Michelin Green Star for sustainability, with dining now directed by acclaimed chef partner Luke Selby.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Instructor-led clay pigeon shooting on the estate, suitable for all abilities. Sessions are safe, relaxed, and set against the Dee Valley backdrop. Available for private groups and exclusive use bookings.
Full driven game bird shooting experience on the Palé Hall estate, combining the thrill of traditional shooting with five-star hospitality and dining by Luke Selby.
The River Dee runs through the Palé estate. Guided fly fishing sessions with experienced instructors who know the water and its rhythms. Available to both beginners and seasoned anglers. Seasonal — check with the hotel for availability.
A full simulated driven-game shooting day across four drives on the estate. The natural contours of the Dee Valley send clays rising and curling — high pheasants, fast partridges. Includes exceptional food throughout and full Palé Hall hospitality. One of the more immersive ways to spend a day on the estate.
Guided walks through 50 acres of landscaped gardens, woodland, and the wider Dee Valley estate. The grounds change with every season. Self-led routes also available.
A self-guided or guided trail through the estate grounds, featuring sculptures including pieces from artist Glen Farrelly carved from timber felled in the 2025 storms on the estate. Guided walks available with a deeper history of the planting and grounds.
Hands-on wheel throwing and hand-building sessions led by local Welsh makers within the estate. No experience necessary. Available as a standalone session or as part of a Pottery + Afternoon Tea package. A Potter's Retreat (3-night package) is also bookable.
Palé Hall has its own private helipad — one of the only luxury hotels in North Wales with this facility. Private helicopter charter for arrivals and departures, plus bespoke sightseeing flights over North Wales and Snowdonia. The hotel can arrange everything from landing to leaving.
A Veuve Clicquot picnic basket for taking across the estate — down to the River Dee, out into the grounds, or alongside a morning of shooting or fishing. Choice of Yellow Label or Grande Dame Champagne with seasonal sweet and savoury provisions.
Guided tastings in the Palé Hall wine cellar, led by Maître d'Hôtel Josh Mullock (recognised as the UK's top sommelier outside London). Structured or immersive private group sessions available, moving through celebrated regions and small independent producers.
