The Victoria Room on the first floor is a Grand Room — it has Queen Victoria's original bathtub. Book it specifically if that's your thing.

Why It Matters

One of Wales' most decorated country house hotels, with a genuinely storied past — the Victoria Room still contains Queen Victoria's original bathtub. The 2026 arrival of chef partner Luke Selby (formerly Evelyn's Table, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Le Manoir) marks a significant new chapter. The hotel holds a Michelin Green Star for sustainability, three AA Rosettes, a Michelin Key, AA Five Red Stars, and Relais & Châteaux membership simultaneously.

Palé Hall is a Victorian country house hotel built in 1871, sitting on 15 acres of riverside parkland in the Dee Valley at the edge of Snowdonia National Park. The house — complete with galleried entrance hall, vaulted ceilings, hand-painted dome in the Boudoir, and a marbled bar — was originally built for Scottish railway magnate Henry Robertson and has since hosted Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill. Today it holds AA Five Red Stars, a Relais & Châteaux membership, a Michelin Key, and a Michelin Green Star for sustainability, with dining now directed by acclaimed chef partner Luke Selby.

Bryntirion Inn Room

Six rooms in the Bryntirion Inn, a 300-year-old pub on the Palé estate: Yr Wyddfa, Tryfan, Arenig Fawr, Cnicht, Cadair Berwyn, and Mynydd Gwefru — all named after Welsh peaks. Comfortable and well-designed with modern en-suite showers, but at a different level from the main hall. Priced more accessibly. The pub itself is a genuine destination for food and atmosphere.

Classic Room

Four rooms named after Welsh castles: Penrhyn, Pembroke, Caerphilly, and Chirk. Compact by the hotel's own standards but well-finished, with period detailing, curated artwork, and deeply comfortable beds. Penrhyn offers a twin option. Courtyard-facing on the first and second floors. A solid entry point centred around the restaurant and estate rather than the room itself.

Garden Suite

Four stand-alone or semi-detached garden suites within the estate grounds: Bracken, Fern, Hillside Cottage, and Harper's Barn. Bracken and Fern offer private terraces and freestanding baths with direct garden access. Hillside Cottage is self-contained with a private entrance and cottage garden. Harper's Barn is the big one: a two-level converted barn with three bedrooms, separate living room, kitchen, dining area, hot tub, and private garden — ideal for groups or families.

Grand Room

Five rooms: Criccieth, Dolbarden, Llangollen, Victoria, and Denbigh. A notable step up in space from the Classic Rooms — proper seating areas, indulgent bathrooms, sweeping views of the estate or Dee Valley. The Victoria Room is the standout: it contains Queen Victoria's original bathtub and is a first-floor historic room. Several are dog-friendly. Dolbarden has a walk-in shower.

Superior Suite

Three suites: Churchill, Powys, and Westminster. The largest rooms within the main house at 51m². Churchill Suite is named in honour of Winston Churchill's connection to Palé Hall — generous scale, separate seating area, mountain views, and a secret bathroom door. Powys adds a separate single bedroom and walk-in shower. These are proper suites for milestone stays.

Turret Room

Two rooms — Beaumaris and Harlech — set within Palé's distinctive architectural towers. Same footprint as the Classic Rooms but with the added drama of being inside a Victorian turret: curved walls, generous windows framing garden and mountain views, and a separate sitting area. Slightly unexpected and worth the upgrade if available.
