Why It Matters
The only Michelin-starred restaurant in São Paulo (Tangará Jean-Georges, 1 star in 2024, 2025, and 2026 guides) sits on the ground floor. It's also the first Oetker Collection Masterpiece Hotel in South America, and the only 5-star hotel actually inside a park within Latin America's largest city.
A neoclassical palace hotel set inside the 15-hectare Burle Marx Park in São Paulo's upscale Panamby neighborhood. The Oetker Collection opened it in June 2017 on the grounds of a mansion originally commissioned by industrialist Francisco Pignatari in the 1940s — designed by Oscar Niemeyer and Roberto Burle Marx himself. Interior design by Brazilian firms Bick Simonato and Anastassiadis gives each space its own distinct identity: green and earth tones nod to Debret's paintings of the Brazilian landscape, the Burle Bar's vivid blues pay homage to the Tangará bird, and Brazilian art hangs throughout. With 141 rooms and two restaurants — including the only Jean-Georges Vongerichten outpost in South America — it punches well above its weight for a city hotel.
