Why It Matters
Won Condé Nast Traveler Spain's Best Design & Architecture Hotel award. Designed by celebrated Portuguese architect Manuel Aires Mateus, each of the four houses is a sculptural work set within a working vineyard and farming property. The exclusive fragrance diffused throughout the houses was created by British perfumer Lyn Harris specifically for the property.
Four modernist concrete houses designed by architect Manuel Aires Mateus, set on an 80-hectare wine and farming estate just outside Melides on the Alentejo coast. The name is a pun on the Portuguese word for patios — and that concept drives everything here. Rooms open fully onto private courtyards via floor-to-ceiling retractable glass walls. No lobby, no reception desk, no fuss. Just you, the architecture, and a lot of Atlantic horizon.

The two-bedroom house built around a large private courtyard facing the sea. Both ensuite bathrooms have interior gardens, a freestanding bathtub, and shower. The living room has a hanging fireplace and connects to a dining space and fully equipped kitchenette. Outside, a spacious courtyard with sunbeds and an outdoor shower.

The largest of the four houses, with three bedrooms and walk-in closets. Two ensuite bathrooms lead directly to a private courtyard with outdoor showers. The third bedroom has a separate entrance via its own outdoor patio — ideal as staff quarters or a guest suite. House 2 has a full chef's kitchen and a long dining table seating up to 14 people, plus a grand living room with fireplace facing the sea and an indoor patio.
