Évora
Farm-meets-contemporary resort. Alentejo blues and whites, natural wood, artisanal pieces. Relaxed and unhurried — the pace is deliberately slow. Works equally well for families with young kids and couples who want to detach from everything.
Book experiences (balloon, beekeeping, guided bike tours) at least 48–72 hours in advance — they fill up fast in peak season
Why It Matters
One of the most coherent farm-hotel concepts in Portugal. It actually grows food on site, turns kitchen waste into fertiliser, runs on solar, and operates its own water treatment plant. The three adults-only contemplation pools overlooking the plains are a genuine differentiator. And the Alentejo night sky here — with zero light pollution — is genuinely spectacular.
Octant Évora sits on an 11-hectare agricultural estate called Herdade do Perdiganito, about 19km outside the UNESCO-listed city of Évora. It's a proper farm hotel — there are olive groves, fruit orchards, an organic vegetable garden, and actual farm animals to feed. The low-slung whitewashed buildings hold 56 rooms and 16 private-pool villas, all with terraces or balconies facing the wide Alentejo plain. Contemporary architecture with rustic interiors, solar power, plastic-free rooms, and its own organic water treatment plant make the sustainability angle genuinely meaningful rather than just a talking point.
