Palma
Nordic minimalism inside a Mediterranean medieval palace. Sober earth tones — white, beige, warm grey, brown — and tactile natural materials like wool, leather, and limestone meet centuries of history. Public spaces lean eclectic and vivid; rooms are quiet and restrained.

Why It Matters
One of Palma's oldest buildings, Michelin Key 2025 recipient, Prix Versailles award winner, and member of Design Hotels. The visible 12th-century Muslim palace structure — including original patios and a Alfarje ceiling with Arabic calligraphy that survived fire and earthquake — makes this architecturally one-of-a-kind. Small enough (37 rooms) to feel like a private house.
Opened in summer 2023, Nobis Hotel Palma puts 37 rooms inside a 12th-century Muslim palace in the heart of Palma's Old Town. The building has lived through at least seven architectural lifetimes — fire, earthquake, Christian conquest, Gothic rebuild, Baroque reform — and the architects didn't try to erase any of it. Instead, Wingårdhs (the award-winning Swedish firm) layered clean Scandinavian design over original stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and a paneled wooden Alfarje ceiling with Arabic calligraphy that survived both a 13th-century fire and an earthquake. The result is genuinely striking: DUX beds and Bang & Olufsen speakers in rooms where medieval arches frame the doorways.
