Why It Matters

A former convent turned 4-star hotel, the NH Collection Palacio de Burgos occupies a late-Gothic building some 500 years old right on the banks of the Arlanzón River. Cross the old footbridge and you're at the foot of the 13th-century Cathedral of Saint Mary in under five minutes. The cloister — built in the 16th century by architect Juan de Vallejo — is the showpiece: all carved stone and now crowned by a glass dome.
