Why It Matters
It was actually the home of Madrid's wealthiest families (and later a diplomatic residence) before becoming a hotel. Every room has architectural drawings of the original facade. There's also an original painting by Spanish artist Javier Mariscal on display in the lobby.
A neoclassical former embassy in the posh Chamberí barrio, completely renovated in 2014 and reborn as a four-star hotel with 183 rooms. The stately stone facade and classical bones are still very much intact — inside, you get warm beiges, damask upholstery, and modern comforts. It sits a short metro ride from the Prado and the Gran Vía, right on Madrid's main business corridor.
