Stone-clad boutique hotel in the traditional mountain village of Monodendri, right on the edge of the Vikos Gorge in northwestern Greece. Two separate buildings house 11 suites, all with fireplaces, leather furniture, and views down into one of the world's deepest gorges. There's a small adults-only spa in its own building, a lobby bar pouring local wines and spirits, and a breakfast that leans hard into Epirote produce. No pool. Demanding 8-hour round trip from Mikro Papigo to the alpine lake of Drakolimni at 2,000m altitude, crossing the Tymfi mountain range with an intermediate stop at Astraka mountain shelter at 1,950m.
A 3-hour mountain bike route starting from Elati village, through the forest of Oxyas, and on to Kipi village — passing stone bridges and alternating between tarmac and dirt road with views of Mount Tymphi and the Vikos Gorge. Bike rentals available.
