Monte Uzulu sits on one of the last undeveloped hills in downtown San Agustinillo, perched above where the coastal jungle meets the Pacific. The buildings — a collaboration between architecture studio At-te and design studio Taller Lu'um — are a contemporary riff on traditional thatched-roof palapa structures, built using local hardwood, earth-pigmented cement walls, and dried palm leaves. Eleven suites, no air-conditioning, and a strong no-fuss sustainability ethos: rainwater harvesting, 100% water treatment, organic bath products, and locally sourced everything. The beach is a 5-minute walk downhill.

Jungle View Suite
Ground-floor suites that face the dense Oaxacan jungle rather than the ocean. Slightly smaller than the upper suites but still designed with the same open-plan concrete-and-wood aesthetic. Private terrace with outdoor seating, slotted wooden doors that open the bedroom to the outdoors, and an open bathroom with tub, rain shower, and concrete sink. Ceiling fans only, no A/C.
Luxury Suite
Top-floor suite with the best views in the house — sweeping panoramas of the Pacific Ocean and the jungle canopy. The bedroom is roomy, and the extra-large open-plan bathroom positions the bathtub right in front of the terrace, so you're soaking with ocean views. The extended balcony fits a dining table, chairs, and lounge chairs. Skylights above the tub let in natural light. This is the one to book.
