di Cortona
Historic sacred architecture meets spare, considered luxury. Neutral tones, local craftsman furniture, marble floors, and frescoed ceilings coexist without trying too hard. Quiet and contemplative — the kind of place where you actually slow down.
Book the Junior Suite Gli Affreschi if you want the most dramatic room — the frescoed walls are the signature of the whole property
Why It Matters
Adults-only property set in an authentic working monastery structure with original 15th-century frescoes still visible in guest rooms. The Bagni di Bacco spa is carved directly from an ancient Roman cistern. Recognised by both Michelin Guide and Forbes Travel Guide.
A 15th-century monastery at the very top of Cortona — literally the highest point in town — converted into a 36-room five-star boutique hotel that opened in 2019 after meticulous restoration under the supervision of the Monuments Superintendence of Arezzo. The bones are all still here: vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, restored frescoes, and a Roman cistern that's now the spa. What were once monks' cells are now hotel rooms, and the former friars' refectory is now Gli Affreschi restaurant.

A private balloon flight over the Tuscan landscape — Val di Chiana, vineyards, and medieval hill towns from the air. One of the most cinematic ways to see this part of Italy.
An exclusive workshop in the heart of Florentine craftsmanship — creating a personal fragrance with a local perfumer.
The monks' former botanical garden, now a panoramic terrace with a freshwater plunge pool and sunbeds overlooking the Val di Chiana. Not a lap pool — but the view more than compensates.
