A 15th-century monastery at the very top of Cortona — literally the highest point in town — converted into a 36-room five-star boutique hotel that opened in 2019 after meticulous restoration under the supervision of the Monuments Superintendence of Arezzo. The bones are all still here: vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, restored frescoes, and a Roman cistern that's now the spa. What were once monks' cells are now hotel rooms, and the former friars' refectory is now Gli Affreschi restaurant.

The smallest rooms in the hotel, converted directly from the monks' original cells. At 17 sqm they're cosy — don't expect sprawling space. Some are attic-style with lovely small windows and a gallery ledge looking out over Cortona's rooftops. These were the rooms of the monastery's priors — larger than the monks' cells by design. Generous natural light, and some come with frescoed ceilings and a fireplace. Each one is different, so worth requesting specifics at booking.

A Junior Suite with a private terrace offering open views — the 'Bellevue' name does the work here. The terrace gets morning light and is the natural place to linger over breakfast or an aperitivo.
Junior Suite Gli Affreschi
The most emblematic room in the hotel. The frescoed walls are the real draw — centuries-old paintings that experts believe may reference the 1260 Battle of Montaperti. If you're going to splurge on one room at this property, this is the argument for it.
