Why It Matters
One of Slovenia's most decorated new restaurants (2 Michelin stars, World's 50 Best Discovery list, Les Grandes Tables du Monde) operates inside a six-room hotel with a private Finnish sauna. The combination is rare: a legitimately world-class tasting menu and an intimate hotel where breakfast is made by the same Michelin-starred kitchen. Sustainability is genuine — plastics eliminated, local sourcing within 150km, Green Key certified, Slovenia Green certified.
Six rooms. Two Michelin stars. A lakefront address in the Julian Alps. Milka opened in 2022 as a full reinvention of a 1960s guesthouse on the banks of Lake Jasna, rebuilt using hand-quarried limestone, burnt-and-brushed larch, and oak offcuts — all sourced within shouting distance of Kranjska Gora. The architecture firm Gartner Arhitekti designed across four levels, embedding local rock formations directly into the building (the Rock Suite is literally built around a boulder protruding through the floor). And the restaurant, led by Head Chef David Žefran, earned its first Michelin star just three months after opening, its second a year later.

The biggest suite at 58m², defined by open, lofty spaces and panoramic views from all angles. A freestanding bathtub, a stylish sofa, walk-through wardrobe, and a balcony with the widest viewing angle in the hotel. Extended-king bed. A 30m² rooftop room, the sister to Pine but slightly larger and with both a walk-in shower and a freestanding bathtub. Open-plan bedroom and bathroom, electrically dimmable windows, two skylights opening onto balconies, and a cosy lounge corner. King-size bed. The only room that can accommodate a third guest (extra single bed built in, available on request). Black-and-white onyx tiles throughout.

Garden Suite
The largest and most private of the three suites at 50m², with an additional 35m² terrace featuring an outdoor hot tub and a lush garden. The separate lounge creates a genuinely secluded resting area distinct from the sleeping space. King-size bed with extended leg room. Bathroom finished in black-and-white onyx tiles with a double basin, bidet, and walk-in shower. No pets allowed in this room.

The smallest room at 18m² but arguably the most romantic: no TV (just a tablet), electrically dimmable windows throughout, and an elevated king-size bed hidden behind a thin fabric veil. Freestanding bathtub offers a bird's-eye view of Lake Jasna. White onyx tile bathroom with walk-in shower. The hotel informally calls this their 'honeymoon suite.' The panorama shifts throughout the day in cinematic fashion.

A 23m² rooftop room designed around the concept of open space — bedroom and bathroom merge into one continuous area. Electrically dimmable windows and two ceiling skylights that open onto two small rooftop balconies overlooking the lake and mountains. A tucked-away reading nook is built in. Double walk-in shower. King-size bed. The hotel describes it as 'a bookworm's paradise.'

Rock Suite
A 45m² suite built around a natural boulder that protrudes through the floor — the architects designed the entire room around it. Freestanding bathtub is the centrepiece, positioned to look out over the lake and mountains. Small private outdoor patio is ideal for an aperitivo. King-size bed, lounge area, and a discreet walk-in wardrobe. The only room that accepts one dog under 15kg (€60 supplement per night). Black and white onyx tile bathroom with walk-in shower.

The hotel provides a dedicated secure bike storage room. The surrounding area has extensive cycling routes through the Julian Alps.
The hotel sits at the edge of Triglav National Park. Trails range from gentle lakeside strolls to serious ascents of peaks like Razor and Prisank. The Vršič Pass road — one of the most dramatic alpine routes in the country — starts nearby.
Paragliding is available from nearby launch sites above Kranjska Gora, bookable through local operators.
A structured wine and cocktail pairing experience with Slovenian and regional wines matched with local charcuterie and cheese platters. Runs Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 3:30pm.
Kranjska Gora ski area is on the doorstep, with 20km of slopes. The hotel's Ski Package includes a multi-resort pass covering 100+ lifts and 200+ km of pistes across Slovenia, Italy, and Austria. FIS World Cup events have been held nearby. Freeride and ski touring also available for advanced skiers.
The surrounding couloirs and winter terrain support snowshoeing and ice climbing. The Planica Nordic Centre — one of the world's premier ski jumping and ski-flying venues — is a short drive away.
Lake Jasna is directly across the road from the hotel — a glacial lake with striking turquoise-blue water. Guests use it naturally after the sauna in warm months.
