Why It Matters
First Meliá resort in Thailand. Home to what the developer billed as Koh Samui's first lagoon pool and largest swimming pool on the island. The boat suites — actual restored teak rice barges converted into two-story accommodation — are genuinely unique in the region. Voted among Thailand's Top 20 Resorts by Condé Nast Traveler readers.
Meliá Koh Samui is the Spanish chain's first Thailand outpost, opened in January 2020 on Choeng Mon Beach — one of the quieter stretches on the island's northeast coast. The whole property is built around a nautical theme: the crown jewel is a collection of converted authentic Thai teak rice barges turned into two-story boat suites, sitting in their own garden plots ringed by water. Everything else — the lagoon pool that snakes 700 yards through the resort, the Level Lounge shaped like a boat hull, even the lobby layout — reinforces that maritime DNA. It's five-star resort comfort without the circus of Chaweng.
