The building is genuinely old — exposed beams, reed roof — but the interiors were fully renovated in 2019 and feel modern and warm rather than fussy or museum-like. A 15-minute walk from the hotel, this inland dune in the Lüneburg Heath nature park offers a surprising landscape of ancient twisted pines and open sand formed by glacial meltwater. Easy and very rewarding after breakfast.
The Seeve river runs nearby and is good for paddling, especially on hot days. The hotel can provide info on boat rentals in the area.
