One of a pair of Belle Époque palaces built in 1902 under the patronage of Archduchess Maria Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, the Matild Palace sat largely dormant for decades before a five-year, meticulous restoration turned it into one of Central Europe's grandest luxury hotels. It opened as a Luxury Collection property in 2021, and the transformation is staggering: gilded lobbies, grand staircases, Zsolnay porcelain pendant lights, and bathrooms tiled in mosaic patterns lifted straight from Budapest's thermal bath tradition. The dining program alone — anchored by Wolfgang Puck's Spago Budapest and The Duchess rooftop bar — would justify a visit even without a room key.

The hotel's most theatrical accommodation. Spans three floors with its own dedicated tower rising 48 metres above Budapest, inspired by the crown of Archduke Joseph Karl of Austria. Uninterrupted 360-degree views of the city and the Danube from up high. Two private balconies. The bathroom features a deep-soaking tub, rain shower, marble floors, and double vanity. One of the most visually spectacular hotel rooms in Central Europe.

Designed by MKV Design London as if it were the private apartment of Archduchess Maria Klotild herself. Spans the full length of the palace facade. Royal crystal chandeliers, handmade glass mosaics, bronze-inlaid timber panelling, Art Deco dressing table, embroidered curtains referencing Hungary's textile tradition, marble-clad electric fireplaces, and gilded bathrooms. Separate master bedroom with bronze-framed screen/dressing room divider, spacious living room, and study. Winner of Best Suite Interior 2023.
KingMatild Room
The entry-level room at Matild Palace, and still very much a palace room. Hungarian handcrafted headboards, fishbone parquet floors, and artwork drawn from Budapest's literary heritage. Frette 400-thread-count Andrea Collection linens, 55-inch Smart OLED mirror TV, Lutron lighting, Byredo toiletries, and a thermal bath-inspired bathroom with vibrant mosaic tiles, a deep soaking tub, and a rain shower.
