Klooster
Historic convent meets refined Belgian hospitality. Calm rather than flashy. The decor whispers in browns and beiges, with conversation nooks and cushiony common areas. It's quiet for a city-centre hotel, which surprises people.

Why It Matters
One of the only hotels in Belgium occupying an intact 16th-century cloister complex. The Michelin Guide calls it the top hotel in Leuven. The newer Gasthuis wing adds a second historic layer — an 11th-century hospital building — giving the overall property an unusual double-heritage identity.
Martin's Klooster is a 4-star hotel in the heart of Leuven built in the 16th century to house Charles V's secretary — it later did a stint as a convent and a hospital for knights before opening its doors to guests in 2003. The building is listed and it shows: turrets, oak beams, latticed windows, and in a few rooms actual stained glass. A recent addition called the Gasthuis, set in the restored former Saint-Elisabeth Hospital (dating to the 11th century), adds 32 more rooms, a brasserie restaurant, and a bar with a park-facing terrace.
