Mandraki Beach Resort
Understated luxury with genuine historical weight. Natural stone, neutral palettes, exposed wooden beams, and sandy tones throughout. More elevated seaside home than resort — there's no lobby fanfare, just a private jetty, a calm bay, and staff who quietly take care of everything.

Why It Matters
The only 5-star property on Hydra, sitting directly on the island's only sandy beach. Built inside the original stone ruins of Admiral Miaoulis's 19th-century shipyard and naval base. In the 1960s, the site famously hosted Sophia Loren and Frank Sinatra. No common pool exists — every pool is private, per suite.
Mandraki sits on the only sandy beach in all of Hydra — a genuinely unusual distinction for a Greek island of this caliber. The 17-suite property is built on the stone walls of a 19th-century naval shipyard where Admiral Miaoulis launched warships against the Ottomans during the Greek War of Independence. Today those same walls hold high wooden-beam ceilings, Diptyque toiletries, and private plunge pools overlooking a sheltered bay. Getting here requires a 7-10 minute sea taxi from Hydra port, which does a very good job of making the rest of the world feel very far away.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Hydra's car-free terrain makes it exceptional for hiking. The concierge can suggest or arrange guided hikes of varying difficulty around the island. A 25-minute coastal walk leads to the DESTE Foundation ProjectSpace — a seasonal contemporary art gallery in a former slaughterhouse.
All guests get complimentary use of sunbeds and parasols on Hydra's only sandy beach. Waiter service directly to your lounger. Sheltered bay with calm, shallow waters — ideal for non-strong swimmers.
The concierge can arrange private sailing excursions and boat charters around Hydra and to nearby secluded beaches. Island-hopping day trips to traditional seaside tavernas also available.
The sheltered bay has a private jetty and marina for yachts. Free berthing for resort guests. Yachters not staying at the resort can also anchor and use the beach facilities and restaurant, subject to availability.
Complimentary shuttle by sea taxi from the resort jetty to Hydra port, running every ~30 minutes from the clock tower from early morning until 11pm. The resort also runs free transfer boats from Hydra port from 18:30 to 23:00 for guests with dinner reservations.
Two resident in-house yoga instructors offer private or group sessions on the beach or in the privacy of your suite. Sessions combine movement, breathwork, and meditation using tantric techniques. Suitable for all levels. Available from June to September for group yoga; private sessions by arrangement year-round during the season.
