Why It Matters
Mama Shelter Paris East was Philippe Starck's laboratory for a new kind of budget-design hotel when it opened in 2008 — one that proved you could have sharp interiors, a genuinely fun restaurant, and a lively DJ-night bar scene without charging luxury rates. It's the original Mama location in a now-global brand. The rooftop terrace and the regular live music and DJ events also make it a neighborhood gathering spot, not just a transit hotel.
Mama Shelter Paris East is the original, the one that started it all. Opened in 2008 in the 20th arrondissement — far from the postcard Paris of the 1st and 7th — it sits near artists' studios, the Père Lachaise cemetery, and across the street from the La Flèche d'Or indie rock venue. Philippe Starck designed the restaurant and bar: black ceilings turned into graffiti chalkboards bearing literary quotations, Mexican wrestling masks as lampshades, tree trunks for stools. It's a place for people who find the city center a little too precious.

A coworking day package exclusive to Mama Shelter Paris East: breakfast + lunch (daily menu) + indoor or outdoor coworking space for €20/day. Preferential rates on private meeting rooms also available.
Regular DJ sets and live performances in the restaurant/bar space, typically on Friday and Saturday evenings. The calendar is updated weekly and posted on the hotel website. Past acts include resident DJs and pop-up performances. The connected La Flèche d'Or indie rock venue is directly across the street.
Football and other major sporting events broadcast in the restaurant bar area. Listed regularly on the events calendar.
