Maison Zugno
Adult-only slow-tourism retreat. Stone manor meets contemporary design — minimalist interiors, solid wood, natural materials, and a philosophy of space over spectacle. Feels more like staying with exceptionally well-organized friends than checking into a hotel. Zero children, zero pets, zero groups over 6.
The restaurant (now Sève) is open to non-guests — book a table separately even if not staying
Why It Matters
One of the most personal hotel projects in the Jura: owners built it room by room, built the spa themselves during COVID, launched a mystery-menu restaurant, and now run Le Caveau for private Jura wine tastings. The freestanding cylindrical L'Observatoire suite — a Lumipod with a panoramic curved picture window overlooking the Monts de Vaux — is unlike anything else in the region. In 2025 the restaurant is being rebranded as Sève, with Nicolas Zugno himself back in the kitchen.
A former coaching inn built in 1773 on a quiet valley road outside Poligny, Maison Zugno is the passion project of Nicolas and Laurence Zugno, who bought the long-closed property in 2016 at age 25 and spent years rebuilding it from the floors up. The stone facade keeps its strict historical posture; inside is a different story — modern colors, designer furniture, custom walnut millwork, and a contemporary spirit that gets more playful the further you explore. They earned 5 stars in January 2023, scoring 98% of the required points.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel offers curated gift boxes and experience packages through their dedicated gift box portal — stays, dinners, spa access, and combinations thereof.
Three curated tasting experiences focused on Jura wines: Discovering the Jura (introductory), Jura's Exception (fine and rare), and New Generation (young contemporary producers). Guided by Laurence Zugno and Maître d'Hôtel Thibaut. Cheese and charcuterie platters available to accompany. Open to guests and visitors by reservation, 11am–5pm.
The on-site kitchen garden is tended by gardener Pierre using sustainable agriculture principles. It produces herbs, vegetables, fruit, and citrus used directly in the restaurant. Worth a look as part of a slow morning in the park.
Tennis listed as an on-site amenity by the Jura regional tourism office.
