Insider Tip

Step up from the Classic to a Grand Studio and you unlock a full kitchen, considerably more space (600–750 sq ft vs 300–500), and better natural light

Why It Matters

One of Santa Monica's few genuinely historic landmark hotels, designed in 1927 and now a designated local landmark. All 38 rooms are individually designed — no two identical. Kitchens in most rooms above the Classic tier make it unusually well-suited for extended stays. Opened February 2025 after a full renovation.

Maison Twenty Seven is a 1927 Moorish-influenced Mediterranean Revival landmark on a quiet Santa Monica residential block, about four blocks from the beach and one block from the Third Street Promenade. Originally designed by architect Arthur E. Harvey and once billed as the 'Aristocrat of Santa Monica,' the building reopened in February 2025 as a 38-room boutique hotel after a meticulous restoration by Somnium Hospitality Group. It's the kind of place that feels more like borrowing a stylish friend's villa than checking into a hotel. No pool, no rooftop bar scene — just genuinely attentive service, Nespresso in the room, and ornate ceilings that look exactly like they did a century ago.

At 1,200 sq ft, this penthouse sits above it all with a vaulted atmosphere and a sprawling living area. The views of Santa Monica's skyline feel earned at this height. Sleeps four — makes sense for a family or two couples. The eclectic mix of vintage velvet sofas, plaid armchairs, and bold red carpet is genuinely characterful rather than pretentious.
