Maison Borella
Historic-contemporary boutique. Bohemian, canal-side intimacy with old-Milan working-class character — ceramics collections on walls, brick breakfast rooms, courtyards. Not flashy or ultra-polished. Think quiet charm over luxury spectacle.

Why It Matters
It's the only hotel in Milan with rooms directly overlooking the Naviglio Grande canal. The building itself is a protected heritage structure restored under government supervision. Bugandè, the on-site restaurant, has become a local destination in its own right — not just a hotel dining room.
The only hotel with a direct waterfront address on Milan's Naviglio Grande, Maison Borella occupies a carefully restored 18th-century 'casa di ringhiera' — a traditional Milanese tenement house — that was brought back to life in 2015 under the supervision of the Regional Board of Milan. It's a 4-star boutique with 28 rooms, an internal courtyard, exposed-beam ceilings, and boiserie woodwork. The Navigli neighbourhood is lively at night but the hotel itself sits in a pedestrian zone, which keeps the noise manageable.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
A 40 sqm meeting room with natural light, full audiovisual equipment, and flexible seating arrangements. Overlooks the internal courtyard. Available for coffee breaks, small conferences, and business dinners.
The Naviglio Grande embankment is one of Milan's premier aperitivo strips. The hotel concierge can direct you to the best bars for the traditional early-evening drink-and-snacks ritual. Most venues are within a 5-minute walk of the front door.
The towpath (Alzaia) running along the Naviglio Grande is right outside the front door. Morning jog, evening stroll, or bike ride — it's flat, atmospheric, and a great way to see the neighbourhood before the tourist crowds appear.
A preserved stone washhouse from the Middle Ages, just steps from the hotel. The Vicolo dei Lavandai (Washermen's Alley) is one of the most photographed spots in Milan and one of the few places that gives you a feel for pre-industrial working life along the canals. Free to visit any time.
