Ask for a Deluxe Room facing the interior courtyard — they're the quietest and most atmospheric

Why It Matters

Named after Stendhal's novel — the writer lived at this address in the early 1800s. Later a quiet refuge for Serge Gainsbourg and Nina Simone. Opened in its current boutique form in January 2019 after renovation by Esprit de France. The 6th-floor reception-as-salon concept is genuinely unusual and makes breakfast feel like a rooftop affair. One of the few small hotels in this price tier to hold a Tablet Hotels listing in the 1st arrondissement.

Twenty rooms in a building Stendhal called home in the early 19th century, behind a carriage gate on Rue Cambon that gives nothing away from the street. Push it open, cross the quiet interior courtyard, and take the elevator to the 6th-floor reception — which doubles as a literary salon with rooftop views over Paris. The noise of one of the city's most trafficked fashion districts simply stops. Interiors blend storm-grey velvet, brass fittings, tweed headboards, and solid parquet floors, drawing on Art Deco, Art Nouveau, and Haussmannian references without going heavy-handed about it.

Cambon Suite

From EUR415 / night

The flagship suite and the one guests talk about. At 30-34 sqm (323-366 sq ft depending on configuration), it has a bedroom plus a proper living room with sofa bed. The king-size bed (180x200cm) is set against original engravings on the walls; the palette runs storm grey, burnished silver, brick, and midnight blue. The bathroom gets both a large walk-in shower AND a bathtub — rare at this property. CODAGE products throughout, fluffy bathrobes. Sleeps four, which makes it genuinely good for families.

Deluxe Room

From EUR239 / night

Same 19 sqm as the Superior but with a sitting area (sofa) and a view over the quiet interior courtyard rather than the street. The courtyard-facing rooms are the most sought-after for the peace they offer — no street noise at all. Queen or twin bed configuration available. CODAGE products, walk-in shower, and some rooms have large windows letting in soft natural light.

Executive Room

From EUR263 / night

Counterintuitively, the Executive Room is actually the smallest room category at 17 sqm — but it comes with its own lounge area and is priced above the Deluxe, reflecting its position and configuration rather than its size. Good for a solo business traveler or a couple who wants the lounge seating without stepping up to a suite. Close to Rue Cambon side of the building.

Superior Room

Superior Room

From EUR209 / night

The entry-level room, and honestly not a bad way in. At 19 sqm it's compact but the layout is smart — tweed and velvet details, brass fixtures, parquet floors, and a king-size bed in 100% French linen. The view looks over the sculpted façade of the Cour des Comptes and Rue du Mont-Thabor, which is more interesting than a blank wall. CODAGE skincare in the walk-in shower bathroom.
