Why It Matters

The first Marriott in Luxembourg and the only hotel in the country designated a National Monument (since 1991). Built in 1932, it hosted Generals Patton, Bradley, and Eisenhower for a Christmas dinner during the Battle of the Ardennes in 1944. Its Brasserie Alfa is a genuine community anchor, not just a hotel restaurant.

The Hotel Alfa opened in 1932 and quickly became a Luxembourg institution — so much so that it was declared a National Monument in 1991. After closing in 2017 for a multi-year renovation, it reopened in May 2025 as the first Marriott-branded hotel in the country. The Art Deco bones are all still there: the geometric zigzag façade, triangular balconies, the twin towers. Inside, Swiss designer Iria Degen has layered in petrol blues and olive tones inspired by the four restored Julien Lefèvre paintings that hang on the ground floor — Lefèvre being the son of Alfred Lefèvre, who built the place. It's a proper city-center hotel with real history, not just a renovated box.

Alfa Suite

Designed with business travelers in mind but comfortable for anyone. Separate living area ideal for a private meeting or just putting real distance between your bed and your laptop. Art Deco furnishings, natural light throughout, and the hotel's signature design palette. Suites come in olive and pink tones — a departure from the petrol blue of standard rooms.

Classic Queen Room

The entry-level room. Compact by suite standards but well thought-through — parquet floors, soundproofed windows, an Art Deco lamp designed by Jacques Schneider, and a decent desk for a laptop. Bathroom has a walk-in shower with a nod to the building's zigzag motifs in the tiling.

Junior Suite

Noticeably more space than the standard rooms, with a separate sitting area that works well as a reading corner or second workspace. Some junior suites sit on the seventh floor under the sloped roofline — architecturally interesting. Others on lower floors have large bay windows. Same Art Deco design DNA as the guest rooms but with room to actually breathe.
