Why It Matters
One of Berlin's most genuinely characterful small stays. Tablet Hotels-listed, privately run, and built around an ecological ethos with upcycled furnishings and organic toiletries. The owners' obsession with 20th-century design and the building's beautifully preserved Gründerzeit bones make it stand out sharply from standard Berlin boutique hotels.
Linnen is a privately-owned boutique 'inn' spread across a 19th-century Gründerzeit Altbau in Prenzlauer Berg. Six individually designed rooms in the main building, plus three self-catering apartments (two in the same building, one in Mitte near Alexanderplatz). No two spaces look alike — think upcycled furniture, restored stucco ceilings, original parquet floors, and an eclectic mix of vintage and mid-century modern pieces chosen by the owners, Bodo and Antonio. Check-in happens through the ground-floor lounge, and you'll often find one of them there chatting with guests.

A 96 sqm, three-bedroom apartment on the first floor of the main building — ideal for families or groups who want independence while still being checked in via the ground-floor café. The largest bedroom faces Eberswalder Straße and has a balcony; two further bedrooms face the rear courtyard (one also with a balcony). Open-plan living room and kitchen. Sleeps up to 6.

LEGO Studio Apartment
A 60 sqm street-level studio at the end of the main building on Eberswalder Straße. Multi-purpose space: it functions as a gallery space with a large window, studio apartment, and can even host small meetings. Floor-to-ceiling curtains and a large sliding door keep it private and manage street noise. Worth noting: the bedroom has no windows of its own. Comes with a 55-inch TV and Apple TV. Note: street noise from the tram is a reality here.

A 110 sqm three-room apartment on the first floor of a restored building at Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 3 in Mitte — entirely separate from the main Linnen building and with no on-site reception. Super high ceilings and large windows. One smaller double room (140x200 bed), one larger room with two 160x200 beds, and a lounge with sofa. Quirky detail: the smaller room has a wall niche wallpapered with pages from a famous German mountaineer's adventure book. Five-minute walk to Alexanderplatz.

Walls lined with recycled wood, double bed on a raised podium (luggage storage underneath), and a glass sliding door dividing sleeping area from the walk-in shower bathroom. Faces the rear of the building, which means quieter nights than the street-facing rooms.

Exposed brick wall, vibrant colour accents, and a playful modern design that's a departure from the upstairs rooms' vintage feel. At 22 sqm it's compact, but ROOMfive guests also have access to the ground-floor lounge space — a perk the other individual rooms don't get.

Two individually styled rooms described by the owners as 'havens of collectables.' ROOM2 leans heavily industrial: metal box side tables, a wooden trolley repurposed as a sofa, a bay window with east Berlin street views and a glimpse of the former Wall's no-man's-land. The bathroom is lined with Turkish travertine tiles and features a full-sized soaker bathtub. Both rooms run 28–32 sqm.

The flagship room at 58+ sqm and the one to book for a special occasion. Two queen-sized beds separated by a sliding door, meaning it can sleep four. The real draw: amazingly restored fresco and stucco ceilings throughout, original floorboards, a south-facing balcony overlooking Eberswalder Straße and the Mauerpark beyond, and a bathroom with a free-standing soaker tub under a hand-painted decorative ceiling. The bathroom is accessed through the second bedroom only.
