Why It Matters
Angela Hartnett and Luke Holder's Italian-inspired restaurant HH&Co has been a consistent draw since 2012 — this isn't a hotel restaurant you tolerate, it's one you book specifically. The Herb House Spa is three floors of serious wellness built into a walled garden. And the Lake Cabin, cantilevered over its own private lake with an outdoor bathtub on the balcony, is one of the most unusual rooms in England.
A Regency-era country house sitting on the edge of the New Forest, about 90 minutes from London. Lime Wood doesn't try to be a stuffy manor — the whole place runs on an easy confidence that comes from not needing to prove anything. The interiors mix original period features with bold contemporary art, bespoke antiques, and some genuinely wild wallpaper choices. It's got a real restaurant (Hartnett Holder & Co, led by Michelin-starred chef Angela Hartnett), a serious three-level spa, and 33 rooms ranging from cosy attic doubles to a lakeside cabin that's cantilevered over the water.
