Lifestyle Resort Zum Kurfürsten
Retro-chic opulence meets serious wellness. Think velvet upholstery, pendant chandeliers, walnut paneling, and gold accents — not minimalist Scandinavian calm but an almost theatrical warmth. The TCM philosophy threads through every corner, from the Five-Elements menus to the color choices in each room.
Book a spa suite if you want a private whirlpool in your room — the Main Spa Suite (48 sqm) and Spa Suite Life (40 sqm) have in-room whirlpool tubs.
Why It Matters
One of Germany's most comprehensive wellness resorts outside the Alps, with 12 saunas, 3 year-round heated pools, a natural bathing lake, and an in-house TCM institute run by licensed alternative practitioners. Independently owned and deeply personal — not a chain hotel.
Sitting on the Kueser Plateau above the vineyards and spa gardens of Bernkastel-Kues, Lifestyle Resort Zum Kurfürsten is the personal project of owner Heiner Buckermann, who bought a 56-room bus-tour stopover in 2001 and spent two decades turning it into a maximal wellness destination. The aesthetic is unabashedly bold — more gold, more pink, more purple — and the spa sprawls across 4,500 sqm of pools, saunas, and lounges spread across several interconnected buildings. Here, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) isn't a marketing add-on; it's genuinely baked into the food, the decor, and a team of on-site alternative practitioners.
