Les Hayes en Sologne
Chateau-meets-summer-camp. Elegant bones — tuffeau stone, billiards library, boudoir bar — but run with genuine warmth and a very family-friendly, all-inclusive spirit. Think more Loire Valley adventure base than formal manor house.

Why It Matters
One of the rare 4-star properties in the Loire Valley where you genuinely sleep inside a château, with a vast private estate to yourselves and an all-inclusive activity model that covers everything from laser tag to astronomy nights. Member of Tablet Hotels.
A 19th-century tuffeau stone château set on a private 180-hectare estate in the Sologne forest — and yes, you actually sleep in it. Owners Frédéric and Virginie Bartoli have turned Château des Hayes into a 19-room boutique hotel that runs more like a smart summer camp than a stiff country house. All on-site activities are included in the room rate, the afternoon snack bell rings at 4pm, and deer wander past your window in the morning fog.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The regional astronomical observatory sits just 500 metres from the estate. On clear nights, guests gather by the fire pit under a very dark sky to observe planets, constellations, and galaxies.
The chestnut grove on the estate has working beehives that guests can observe during forest walks.
The estate is known for its stags, hinds, and roe deer. Reception staff will tell you where to head at dusk for the best chance of a sighting.
Pool table and library inside the château with old vinyl records and a Chesterfield armchair. Books and board games available to borrow.
Marshmallows, popcorn, and chestnuts to roast over an open fire pit, guests wrapped in blankets. A signature evening ritual at Les Hayes.
Borrow one of the hotel's classic cars for a day trip to the Loire castles. A very Les Hayes touch — the kind of thing that makes château-hopping feel properly stylish.
Free standard bikes and rental electric bikes to explore the estate's 180 hectares or ride directly to Chambord and Cheverny (10 km). Three Loire bike trails run through the estate.
Team up to solve a puzzle across a 5-hectare outdoor setting — no locked rooms, the park itself is the playing field. Equipped with a map and wooden decoder with mechanical puzzles. 90 minutes to crack the code.
Solo, team, or capture-the-flag mode in a 5,000 m² purpose-designed forest arena. One of the signature activities — kids and adults both love it.
Fishing at the large estate pond. Guests can also picnic by the water.
Ten kilometres of marked trails through the 180-hectare estate, winding through oak groves, chestnut trees, Landes pines, and past ponds. A 'Boot Bar' at reception lends rain boots and gear so you don't need to pack any.
A 20-metre heated outdoor pool, seasonal. There is also a children's pool. The pool area overlooks the estate grounds.
Pétanque and Mölkky courts by the pond, plus table football, ping-pong, and board games from the library.
Full tennis court in the forest with rackets and balls available. Private coaching also available at €60/hour (booking required).
