Why It Matters
France's only fifth-star hotel at Alpe d'Huez, operated by the same family for four generations. The in-house 'Alpinothérapie' wellness concept — inspired by thalassotherapy but applied to mountain elements (altitude, cold, light, minerals, plants) — was developed exclusively here. Four generations of the Colomb family have run this place since 1902 — starting as a village café in Huez, becoming a proper hotel in 1956, and earning its fifth star in June 2022 after years of phased renovations. At 1,830 metres, right at the foot of the ski lifts in the centre of Alpe d'Huez, it has grown from 77 rooms into a full complex with suites, lofts, private chalets, three restaurants, a full spa, and a heated outdoor pool. The vibe is warm and intergenerational — alpine chalet spirit kept intact, but properly luxurious.

One of two private VIP chalets attached to the hotel. Completely private with full hotel services. Built as part of the 2017-2019 extension (Les Petites Rousses wing). Ideal for groups wanting exclusive chalet living with a five-star safety net.
Classic Room
The entry-level option in the historic Grandes Rousses wing. Comes in multiple colour schemes depending on aspect — colourful to the north, contemporary to the east and west. Nothing wrong with it; it's just compact. Good value for a five-star in the Alps.

Deluxe Room
Steps up the aesthetic — old wood and fine fabrics dominate, the alpine chalet spirit is strong. More spacious and considered design than the Classic. The kind of room you come back to and feel like you're really staying somewhere.
Executive Suite
The biggest and most family-oriented suite in the standard hotel building. Modular configuration means it works as a family base or as a working space for digital nomads who want mountains outside the window.
Loft
The hotel's signature room. Panoramic views of the Écrins massif from every angle, and a majestic glass roof ceiling that floods the space with natural light. Only one of these exists — when it's gone, it's gone.
Mezzanine Suite
High ceilings and a mezzanine layout with the mountains framed in the background. Works well for couples who want something theatrical, or families who want some vertical separation. The mountain view is the backdrop to everything.
Mini Loft
Intimate and atypical — proper loft architecture rather than a rebranded suite. Has a south-facing terrace for sun-soaking. There are only 2 of these, so availability is tight.
Panoramic Duplex Room
A duplex layout that works perfectly for families wanting independence, or couples wanting a separate living/lounge space. The south-facing balcony looks over the dramatic cliffs of the Romanche valley.
Panoramic Room
South-facing with a balcony and ochre hues that echo the sunset on the Grandes Rousses massif. The mountain view is the main event here — expect to spend time sitting on the balcony doing nothing, which is fine.
Prestige Room
Spacious and luminous — copper is everywhere, lending iridescent warmth. The Prestige sits at the top of the standard room tier before you hit the suites. Good light and a proper sense of space.
Suite
The entry suite — modular enough to suit couples or small families. Noble materials and natural textures throughout. Can be configured to work with children without feeling cramped.
