Les Dromonts
Vintage-chic 1960s ski lodge. Think Charlotte Perriand-inspired built-in furniture, psychedelic spa colours, warm woodwork, and the lingering ghosts of Serge Gainsbourg and Steven Spielberg — both regulars during the Avoriaz Fantastic Film Festival heyday.
Book the spa's Nordic outdoor bath in advance — it's small and fills up fast after a powder day.
Why It Matters
The oldest and most architecturally significant hotel in Avoriaz — designed by Jacques Labro as the resort's first building. It hosted celebrities including Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Vartan, Steven Spielberg, and Serge Gainsbourg during the Avoriaz Fantastic Film Festival in the 1980s. The 'fan-shaped' building is listed as an important example of alpine modernist architecture.
Hôtel des Dromonts is Avoriaz's original hotel — designed in the 1960s by architect Jacques Labro as a 'fun space for big children,' and the building still earns that description. The pine-cone silhouette clinging to its cliff face is impossible to miss, and inside, the lobby hits you with Morzine black slate floors, purple-tangerine-carmine furniture, and a vibe that's genuinely 1960s rather than just themed. With only 35 rooms and ski-in/ski-out access to the 600km Portes du Soleil area, it punches well above its size.
