Les Barmes de l'Ours
Alpine-luxe with an art-hotel twist. Four floors each carry a distinct identity — Scandinavian, North American Lodge, Alpine Chalet, and Contemporary — all executed in wood and stone by cabinet-maker Christophe Mattis. Warm, convivial, family-forward but never stuffy.
Book La Table de l'Ours well in advance — it fills up fast and is arguably the best restaurant in the resort.
Why It Matters
Awarded the Clef Michelin in April 2024. Home to the Michelin-starred La Table de l'Ours (Chef Antoine Gras, starred in 2019). The only hotel directly on the Face de Bellevarde Olympic piste, and the first Alpine hotel with a dedicated contemporary art gallery — the Galerie des Barmes — hosting a new artist every winter. Val d'Isère's only bowling alley is inside the hotel.
Les Barmes de l'Ours opened in 2003 as a tribute to Alpine tradition, then surprises you the moment you're inside — contemporary art installations, themed floors ranging from Nordic to American Lodge, and a 1,000m² Sisley spa make it something else entirely. It sits literally at the base of the Face de Bellevarde, Val d'Isère's iconic Olympic black run, meaning ski-in/ski-out isn't a marketing claim but a genuine step out the front door. Three restaurants, a Michelin star, a two-lane bowling alley, and 11 family suites make it the go-to for well-heeled families who want serious skiing and serious comfort in the same package.

How you'll actually spend your days.
On-site ski shop stocking equipment and gear for the whole family. Ski rentals, storage, and a ski room with staff on hand morning and afternoon.
The first Alpine hotel with a dedicated contemporary art gallery. A new artist is hosted every winter in collaboration with curator Jérôme Neutres (former director of the Réunion des musées nationaux-Grand Palais and former president of the Musée du Luxembourg). Exhibitions span painting, drawing, and sculpture — all themed around mountains and nature. Free and open to the public.
Four PlayStations, table football, a pinball machine (50s-style), and a pool table in a dedicated room. Designed for older kids and teenagers, but adults aren't turned away.
The only tenpin bowling alley in Val d'Isère, with two lanes accommodating up to 12 people. Open daily 2pm–11pm. Great for rainy afternoons and après-ski. Located at the heart of the hotel.
Wood-panelled space welcoming children from age 3. Craft activities, games, life-size cuddly toys, and a reading alcove. During school holidays, runs as a supervised drop-in centre from 4–9pm with themed workshops (space, animals, circus). Visits to the Ferme de l'Adroit also organised.
The hotel is the only property sitting at the base of the legendary Face de Bellevarde — an 850m vertical drop over 2,900m, originally designed for the 1992 Olympics by Jean-Claude Killy and Bernhard Russi. Ski-in/ski-out access to 300km of pistes across the Tignes-Val d'Isère ski area.
Regular yoga sessions in a dedicated room, guided by instructor Nathalie Saglia. Suitable for all levels. Classes particularly popular in February.
