Le Relais de Franc Mayne
Wine-country boutique B&B — intimate, theatrical, and rooted in terroir. Feels like sleeping inside a working winery, because you are.
Book the Perchoir de Franc Mayne (treehouse) as far ahead as possible — it goes first and has direct pool access
Why It Matters
One of the few places in Saint-Émilion where guests stay directly on a Grand Cru Classé estate. The star attraction is a kilometre of ancient underground limestone quarries where Château Franc Mayne's wines age in barrel — tours are included for guests. The treehouse room (Perchoir de Franc Mayne) perched in a centuries-old cedar tree with direct pool access is genuinely one-of-a-kind in Bordeaux.
Le Relais de Franc Mayne sits on a working Grand Cru Classé vineyard just 1 km from the medieval village of Saint-Émilion. It's a proper wine estate guest house — five individually styled rooms in a renovated 18th-century stone residence, wrapped by seven hectares of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The stone exterior is austere and simple. Inside, it's anything but: bold fabrics, statement décor, a billiards room, and a cedar-tree treehouse that hangs over the vines.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Bikes available on request — a solid way to explore the Saint-Émilion appellation, the surrounding Gallo-Roman roads, and nearby châteaux. Book in advance.
A plush billiards room in the main château building. Open to guests at any time. A good way to spend an evening given there's no dinner service on-site.
The Grand Saint Émilionnais Golf Club is a short drive from the property. The Relais specifically highlights its proximity for golf-inclined guests.
A natural, chlorine-free pool with a green filtration system, positioned to overlook the vines. Large and well-regarded by guests. Open during high season only — contact the property for exact dates at time of booking.
The centrepiece of any stay. Guests tour the 7-hectare vineyard, visit the chai (with both stainless steel and oak fermentation vats), then descend into 2 hectares of ancient limestone quarries — one of the largest underground quarry networks in the appellation open to visitors. The tour ends with a barrel-ageing cellar walk and a guided tasting of Château Franc Mayne wines. Complimentary for overnight guests; also available to day visitors by reservation.
A marked footpath through the estate's vines leads directly to the medieval village of Saint-Émilion, about 1 km away (20 minutes on foot). Ask the staff for directions. Bring a torch for the return trip after dark.
