Le Moulin
Country-house cool with genuine local roots. Not precious about it either — the terrace at Les Commissions fills up with village regulars just as much as hotel guests. The interior palette is all ochre, natural white and sisal; design studio Saint-Lazare has leaned into vintage ceramics, old-school tomes and handmade local crafts rather than anything slick.

Why It Matters
Originally a working 18th-century oil mill and a former haunt of Albert Camus, the property has been transformed into one of Provence's most characterful small hotels by the Beaumier group. Interior architecture by JAUNE, furniture by Midi Éditions, and a rotating cast of local painters and photographers whose work covers the walls give it a genuine artistic identity rather than the usual boutique-hotel gestures.
An 18th-century oil mill turned 4-star boutique hotel, sitting directly opposite Lourmarin's château. Albert Camus used to stay here. Now under Beaumier's stewardship and redesigned by JAUNE architects, it's a confident mix of Provençal craftsmanship and quiet modern cool — terracotta floors, sisal rugs, handmade chairs by Midi Éditions, and art on every wall. Small enough to feel personal (35 rooms), big enough to have two restaurants, a café-épicerie that locals actually use, and a pool tucked in a garden behind the old stone walls.
