Le Mas Candille
California-meets-Provence. Hugo Toro's redesign layers warm earthy tones, bespoke leather details, mid-century furniture silhouettes, and large picture windows against ancient stone. The overall effect is relaxed luxury — convivial rather than stiff. More family gathering than palace hotel.

Why It Matters
Completely rebuilt and reopened in spring 2024 under new ownership (entrepreneur Jean-Philippe Cartier in partnership with the Clarins family), this Relais & Châteaux property is one of the most significant hotel reopenings on the French Riviera in recent years. The Glow House Spa by Clarins is a flagship concept developed specifically for this property. Chef Romain Antoine, who previously earned two Michelin stars at La Paloma in Mougins, leads the kitchen.
An 18th-century Provençal farmhouse — once a vineyard — sitting on 4.5 hectares above the village of Mougins with unobstructed views across the Grasse hills. The whole place was gutted and reimagined by Franco-Mexican architect Hugo Toro, who brought a distinctly Californian sensibility to it: warm terracotta, mahogany, mid-century furniture, velvety rugs, and art on every wall. The result feels more like a wealthy friend's country house than a hotel. 46 rooms and suites spread across three buildings, two outdoor pools, a serious Clarins spa with its own 25m heated pool, and two restaurants. Seven kilometers from Cannes but a world apart.
